was the daughter of an Korean mother and an American-Russian father. Her father
was consul in Quebec City, Canada. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. Her
parents picked the name "Pom" because it's like the Korean words for
"spring" and "tiger". Klementieff was a citizen of Canada
for a single year. Her family had travelled extensively because of her father's
work. They resided in Japan as well as the Ivory Coast, before settling in
France. Klementieff lost her father to cancer at the age of five. Her mother
was also diagnosed with schizophrenia. Klementieff was raised in France by her
aunt and uncle paternal. Her uncle, who she herself described as "like her
father from childhood," died on Klementieff’s 18th birthday. Her older
brother died seven years after his death. The second time, it was her birthday,
which was on the 25th. Klementieff briefly attended law school after the death
of her uncle in order to placate her aunt, but didn't find the profession
option appealing. In France, she worked as a waitress and salesperson. She
started acting when she was 19years old at the Cours Florent theatre school in
Paris. After finishing her studies she was selected for an audition in theater
that gave her two years of free tuition with some of the best teachers at the
school. Klementieff was the first person to perform professionally in the
independent French film Apres lui (2007). She played the step-daughter of the
main character Catherine Deneuve. The production of the film took three days.
One scene saw Klementieff pushing a person down a set of steps, but she fell.
Gael Morel saved that scene for the film that was to be released. Loup (2009)
was her debut film with a leading role. It is a French film about a tribe in
Siberian mountain reindeer herders. During filming, Klementieff stayed in a
camp, hours from the nearest village, in which temperatures fell to well below
zero
