Amy Carlson
Amy Carlson was born in Glen Ellyn in
Illinois and spent her childhood in Chicago. But when Amy was in junior high
her family also lived in the Middle East where her parents, Bob and Barb,
taught at the American School. Amy is the youngest of three siblings: sisters
Betsy and Lori and brother Joe. Amy has traveled throughout Europe both with
her family and also on her own. Because her parents were teachers who taught,
they could travel together every summer, and camping all over the United
States. They have camped in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy was
in Rwanda in 1994 following the war to help with aid efforts to help the
victims. Amy was a gifted artist from the beginning by participating in school
plays, as well as taking part in writing competitions. In high school, she was
a promising athlete who finished in the first ever 3200 meter relay in the
Illinois girls track. After suffering an injury, Amy went back to college and
was a part of the stage, beginning with Lanford Wilson’s “Fifth of July” and
then directing Wallace Shawn's "Aunt Daniel and Lemon. Amy was a student
at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois and graduated with a cum laude, having a
B.A. in East Asian history and a concentration in Theater. She moved to Chicago
shortly after and then studied Improv at the Improv Olympic, and performed in
the theater at The Actor's Center. A contract role on the now-defunct soap show
Another World (1964) moved her to NYC immediately following her graduation. The
actress has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of
"Outstanding Supporting Actress in an Daytime Drama Series". The most
memorable characters are those played by women of strength, such as Alex Taylor
in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone ((2000)), Katie Owen and Tom Berenger in
Peacemakers(2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods(2003). Carlson resides in New
York City with husband Syd Butler, bassist in Les Savy Fav, where she also
operates in the business of independent music as part-owner of the independent
label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy continues to write and explore
diverse and original roles in the film industry.
